EADCC was on Global Edmonton

On Saturday, July 11, Global Edmonton came to interview the Edmonton Association of the Deaf about the rainstorm that flooded EADCC basement.

On Friday, July 11, the Edmonton Association of the Deaf Community Centre (EADCC) basement flooded after a powerful summer storm hit Edmonton. Heavy rain fell quickly, and the city's stormwater system could not keep up. This caused flash flooding in many parts of the city, including at EADCC.

The storm caused problems across Edmonton. Roads flooded, trees fell, and some buildings and public infrastructure were damaged. EADCC was one of many places affected.

Water entered the basement, leaving volunteers and community members with a major cleanup. They worked together to remove water, clean the space, and check for damage to equipment, furniture, and other belongings.

Although the flooding caused a setback, it also showed the strength of the Deaf community. Volunteers came together quickly to help clean up and support the community centre so it could reopen as soon as possible.

Taproot: Polyrhythm invites beer lovers to sip and sign

In March 2024, the Edmonton Association of the Deaf partnered with Polyrhythm Brewing and the Hop Forward Society to host Sip and Sign, an inclusive event bringing together ASL, Deaf awareness, and Edmonton’s craft beer community.

Held on March 27, the event introduced attendees to sign language and beer-related signs through a presentation, beer tasting, and facilitated discussion. The partnership was part of Polyrhythm Brewing’s commitment to creating a welcoming and accessible community space and offered a unique opportunity for Deaf and hearing participants to connect through ASL.
