Edmonton’s 911 call centre offers Text with 911, allowing Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Speech Impaired (DHHSI) individuals to text emergency services from mobile phones. Launched April 30, 2015, it complements but does not replace TTY/TDD, which remains available for non-emergencies.
Only registered DHHSI users with compatible phones can use it. The service is not for the general public. Registration with a wireless provider is required. Voice calls remain standard for non-DHHSI users.
